What is Nooga Portfolio?
An Azure DevOps extension that connects your OKRs to the work being delivered so you can see whether execution is moving the needle on strategic outcomes.
Nooga Portfolio is an Azure DevOps extension for portfolio-level visibility and control. It connects your strategic goals (OKRs) to the work being delivered in Azure DevOps so you can see whether execution is actually moving the needle on outcomes.
Who is it for?
- Portfolio Managers and Release Train Engineers (RTEs) tracking strategy-to-execution alignment
- Agile coaches implementing SAFe at the portfolio level
- Leadership teams who want outcome-based reporting, not just status updates
How it fits the Nooga product suite
Nooga offers a suite of Azure DevOps extensions designed to give organisations end-to-end visibility across the delivery hierarchy.
| Product | Focus |
|---|---|
| Nooga Scale | SAFe at ART level PI Planning, team-level execution |
| Nooga Portfolio | Holistic portfolio connecting strategy to execution through OKRs, epics, and strategic alignment. |
| Nooga Risk | Risk tracking and visualisation across the Nooga Scale and Nooga Portfolio or as a stand alone proudct for risk management in Azure DevOps |
Portfolio sits at the top of the hierarchy. It consumes work items from Azure DevOps and presents them through a strategic lens connecting objectives to the epics and features being delivered.
Key concepts
| Term | Description |
|---|---|
| OKR | Objective & Key Result a goal-setting framework. An Objective is a qualitative goal; Key Results are measurable outcomes that indicate progress toward it. |
| Enterprise OKR | An organisation-wide objective, sitting at the top of the hierarchy. Also knows as Strategic Objectives, long-term objectives. |
| Portfolio OKR | A portfolio-specific objective, connected to an Enterprise OKR via a Related link. |
| Epic | A large body of work in Azure DevOps (shown in orange). Epics sit beneath Portfolio OKRs in the hierarchy. |
| Feature | A deliverable that breaks down an Epic (shown in purple). Features are the level at which teams in Scale plan their work. |
| Area Path | A native Azure DevOps concept used to organise work items. When configuring a portfolio, you point it to the Area Path where that portfolio's work items live. |
| PI (Planning Interval) | A fixed time-box used in Nooga Scale usually a quarter (e.g. 2026 Q1). PIs can be displayed as overlay columns on the Portfolio timeline. |
| ART (Agile Release Train) | A group of teams in Nooga Scale. ARTs can be displayed on Epic bars in the timeline to show which team group owns the work. ARTs are called Workspace in Nooga Scale |
| Link Types | Two link types matter: Parent-Child (Objective → Key Result within the same OKR) and Related (Enterprise OKR ↔ Portfolio OKR ↔ Epic). |
